Process
Background:
Mediarail Design was asked by Wolf Design Group to join the effort in creating a Museum that would encapsulate the NASCAR racing career of Mark Martin. Our responsibility was to create all the visual collateral that would be displayed, which included photo albums, newspaper articles, large format images, and pictorial murals. The goal was to give a "walk-through" experience of Mark's racing achievements as a tribute to his fans.
As for his racing statistics, as of the end of last year, in 25 years on the circuit Martin had run to 35 Nextel Cup victories, 41 poles, 356 top-10 finishes and 224 top fives. Martin, 47, began his career in the early 1970s in a car built by his father. He began stock car racing at the age of 15 on local Arkansas dirt tracks. He moved up to the V-8 division in 1976 and began racing on asphalt later that same year.
In 1989, he won his first NASCAR Winston cup at the North Carolina Motor Speedway. He is one of only six drivers to win four races in a row, at Watkins Glen International, Michigan International Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, and Dover International Speedway. In 1997, he broke the all-time Busch Series record to win the race.
Solution:
Photographs were selected from hundreds that were collected either personally from Mark Martin's collection or a host of professional photographers. Due to the age and condition of many of the earlier photographs and newspaper articles; each was scanned, cropped, color corrected and digitally cleaned to their original condition.
Specific photographs were then selected and assigned to different areas of the museum with some being chosen for wall murals behind his race cars and an 8' x 52' mural that served as a timeline of Mark's career.
In addition, a personal race diary and many of his early photo albums were scanned page by page, so fans could view them as they were put together by his mother and wife early in his career. A total of 12 albums were created that spanned the years 1974 through 1982.
